Art Blakey 'S Make It Vinyl, made in 1964 and released in 1965 on Limelight, depicts drummer Art Blakey presiding over a transitional lineup of his famous Jazz Messengers. Blakey was trying to adapt to the loss of some important members and to find a new lineup.
Hence, there was a unique temporary band that belonged to such a long-running group. This ensemble included Lee Morgan (trumpet,), Curtis Fuller (trombone,), John Gilmore (tenor saxophone,) John Hicks (piano,) and Victor Sproles (bass).
Together they presented a high-energy repertoire which shows how Blakey's hard bop is influenced by the changing personnel during the 1960s of the Messengers' existence. Blakey drums throughout this record with his typical energy. Verve Vault Series is always remastered from analog tapes and produced on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
