Bob Dylan Live in London, 1966
The Real Royal Albert Hall vinyl record captures Bob Dylan during a pivotal period in his musical career. Recorded at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 26, 1966, the performance documents the contrast between Dylan’s acoustic songwriting and his increasingly electric live sound.
The album’s title also carries an important piece of music history. For years, a celebrated 1966 concert recording was incorrectly associated with the Royal Albert Hall, although it was recorded at Manchester Free Trade Hall. This release presents the actual London performance, making it a distinctive document of Dylan’s 1966 tour.
From Acoustic Classics to Electric Rock
The 15-track set opens with acoustic performances, including “She Belongs to Me,” “Fourth Time Around,” “Visions of Johanna,” and “It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.” Other highlights include “Desolation Row,” “Just Like a Woman,” and “Mr. Tambourine Man.”
The second half moves into the electric set, featuring “Tell Me, Momma,” “Baby, Let Me Follow You Down,” “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat,” “Ballad of a Thin Man,” and the powerful closing performance of “Like a Rolling Stone.”
Together, these recordings capture the energy and artistic transformation that made Dylan’s 1966 tour such an important moment in rock history.
