David Hazeltine Trio – The Jobim Songbook in New York
(180g One-Step Vinyl LP)
Originally released in 2006, The Jobim Songbook in New York LP revisits the music of Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim through the fresh perspective of a New York jazz trio. Pianist David Hazeltine is joined by bassist Nat Reeves and drummer Joe Farnsworth for performances that bring together lyrical melodies, inventive improvisation and straight-ahead jazz energy.
Rather than simply reproducing the familiar bossa nova feel of Jobim’s compositions, the trio explores their potential in a swinging jazz setting. The result offers a different perspective on beloved standards, including “Meditation,” “Wave,” “Desafinado” and “The Girl from Ipanema.”
Issued by Chesky Records as part of its anniversary reissue programme, this edition is a 180g one-step pressing vinyl LP. It makes an appealing addition to collections focused on modern jazz piano trios, classic Brazilian compositions and premium vinyl releases.
