Product Details
McCoy Tyner, one of the finest pianists, released his first album for Blue Note entitled The Real McCoy in 1967 after leaving John Coltrane's quartet. He recorded his album Tender Moments a few months after Coltrane's death with an enlarged group, including a six-piece horn section.
On Tyner's third Blue Note recording Time for Tyner recorded in 1968, he chose another path by forming a hornless quartet with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Herbie Lewis and drummer Freddie Waits. Tyner and Hutcherson's first meeting was recorded in 1966 Blue Note release Stick-Up, and in the current project, the relationship between the two musicians became even closer.
The formation with the lead piano and vibraphone offers a dreamlike atmosphere to this album, however, musicians give very vivid and electrifying performance.
